  • The .17 Hornet (HOR-net) is a relatively new centerfire rifle cartridge released in 2012 by ammunition manufacturer Hornady. Based on the .22K-Hornet case, this round has quickly gained popularity among varmint and predator hunters due to its versatility, low recoil and high magazine capacity. The .17 Hornet offers velocities very similar to that of the .22 Hornet but with slightly more power and improved accuracy at short to medium ranges. It's specifically designed for use on smaller game animals such as groundhogs, coyotes, foxes and prairie dogs, but can also be used effectively for larger animals such as deer.
