  • The .277 Fury or 6.8x51mm Common Cartridge is a centerfire rimless bottlenecked rifle cartridge announced by SIG Sauer in late 2019. It has been designed to fit into short action lengths and barrels, making it an ideal choice for mountain hunters. This new cartridge has the potential to be the next great hunting cartridge, with decreased bullet drop and increased energy on target compared to standard ammunition in similar calibers.

In April 2022, the US Army announced that they had selected SIG Sauer's XM5 rifle and .277 Fury ammunition to partially replace the M4. This marks a major shift for the military, as this is the first time since 1964 that they have adopted a new caliber for their rifles. The .277 Fury is 51mm long and cannot fit in a normal AR-15/M4/M16 platform, so it requires its own dedicated rifle platform.

The .277 Fury offers several advantages over other cartridges such as improved accuracy, better ballistics performance, and increased terminal performance on target. It also has less recoil than other cartridges of similar size due to its lighter bullet weight and higher velocity. Additionally, it has a flatter trajectory than other cartridges which makes it easier for shooters to hit targets at longer distances.
