- The .416 TYR cartridge, also known as the 10.6 x 80, is a wildcat cartridge that was developed by the Swedish gunsmith Torsten Rydström.
The .416 TYR cartridge is based on the .416 Rigby cartridge, but with a longer case and a sharper shoulder angle. It has a bullet diameter of .416 inches (10.6 mm), a case length of 3.150 inches (80 mm), and a rim diameter of .545 inches (13.8 mm).
This cartridge is designed for use in hunting large and dangerous game in Africa and other regions, and it is capable of delivering high muzzle velocities and energies with heavy bullets. However, it is a relatively rare and obscure cartridge, and firearms chambered for it may be difficult to find. Ammunition may also be scarce and expensive.
It should be noted that since this is a wildcat cartridge, there are no SAAMI or CIP specifications or guidelines for it. Therefore, it is important to exercise caution and ensure that firearms chambered for this cartridge are properly designed and tested for safe use.
