- The .450 Short is also known as the .450 Revolver Short or the .450 Adams Revolver cartridge.
The .450 Short cartridge was developed in the mid-19th century for use in revolvers. It has a bullet diameter of .455 inches (11.6 mm) and a case length of .85 inches (21.6 mm). The cartridge is typically loaded with lead bullets weighing between 200 and 225 grains (13 to 15 g), and has a muzzle velocity of around 650 to 700 feet per second (198 to 213 m/s) with a muzzle energy of around 200 to 225 foot-pounds (271 to 305 J).
The .450 Short cartridge was primarily used in British military and police revolvers, such as the Webley and Enfield revolvers. It was also used by some civilian revolvers. While it is not a powerful cartridge by modern standards, it was effective at short range and had good accuracy.
Today, the .450 Short cartridge is relatively rare and not commonly used for hunting or other applications. It is mainly used by collectors and enthusiasts of antique and vintage firearms.
