- The 4 Bore Rifle (Nitro) is an extremely large-caliber firearm historically used for big-game hunting and dangerous game. With a bore diameter of approximately 1 inch (25.4mm), it is one of the largest shoulder-fired rifles ever made. Originally designed for black powder, modern 4 Bore rifles use smokeless nitro powder, increasing their velocity and power. These rifles fire massive lead or solid projectiles, often exceeding 1,500 grains, with recoil that is extremely punishing. Custom-built by specialty manufacturers, 4 Bore Nitro rifles are prized for their power, historical significance, and craftsmanship, though they are rare and primarily owned by collectors and enthusiasts.
