- The 5.6x50R Mag is a centerfire rifle cartridge that was developed by the German ammunition manufacturer RWS in the early 20th century. It is a rimmed cartridge that is primarily designed for use in small game and varmint hunting. The 5.6x50R Mag uses a .22 caliber bullet and has a case length of 50mm (1.969 inches). It is loaded to produce muzzle velocities of around 2,800 feet per second and can deliver muzzle energies of around 1,300 foot-pounds. The cartridge is known for its flat trajectory and relatively low recoil. The 5.6x50R Mag is still produced today and is primarily used in Europe for hunting small game and varmints, as well as for target shooting and competition. It is not as widely used as some other small game cartridges, such as the .22 Long Rifle or .17 HMR, but is still popular among some hunters and shooters.
