- The 7 x 72 R is a popular sporting cartridge that was developed in the late 19th century. It is based on the 8mm Lebel round, but has a slightly larger diameter. The 7x72R offers excellent ballistics, with a muzzle velocity of 2,800 fps and an energy of 2,600 ft-lbs.
