- The 7.62x38mmR, also known as the 7.62 mm Nagant and Cartridge, Type R, is an ammunition cartridge designed for use in the Russian Nagant M1895 revolver. This revolver was used by Russian and Soviet troops during both World Wars, and has been out of production since 1950.
The 7.62x38mmR round is a relatively small-bore cartridge with a 5-round non-detachable magazine. It is a unique round due to its gas seal system which allows the cylinder to move forward when fired, creating a seal between the cylinder and barrel that increases muzzle velocity and accuracy.
The Mosin Nagant Model 91/30 is another firearm chambered in this round. This bolt action rifle has a 7.62x54r chambering and holds up to five rounds in its non-detachable magazine. This rifle was used by Russian forces during World War II and remains popular among collectors today due to its historical significance.
