- The 8 mm Rem. Mag. is a type of large-sized rifle cartridge developed in the late 1960s, and is still widely used today.
The 8 mm Rem. Mag. utilizes a 160 grain full metal jacketed bullet that produces velocities well over 3,000 feet per second at the muzzle with an energy level of 3,498 ft/lbs - making it a powerful and effective round for taking down even large game animals from far distances. The relatively low recoil also makes it suitable for use in bolt action or semi-automatic rifles, greatly increasing its rate of fire compared to more traditional single shot rifles chambered in similar calibers.
Since its introduction in 1965, this cartridge has become one of the most popular large bore rifle rounds – being adopted by countless hunters and precision shooters around the globe due to its impressive ballistics capabilities at long range engagements. It is especially popular amongst professional big game hunters who need maximum power but don’t want to sacrifice accuracy and range advantages over other large calibers like .338 Lapua or .50 BMG.
