- The 8x58R cartridge is a rimmed centerfire rifle cartridge that was developed in Denmark for use in their Model 1867/89 Remington Rolling Block military rifle, as well as other bolt-action and break-open rifles. It is sometimes referred to as the 8x58RD (for Danish) or 8x58J (for the German designation).The 8x58R has a rim diameter of 0.574 inches and a bullet diameter of 0.313 inches. It is capable of firing bullets ranging from 40 grains to 230 grains, with velocities typically reaching upwards of 2,100 feet per second depending on the load and firearm used. The cartridge was popularly used in both hunting and target shooting applications due to its accuracy and power.
