- The 8x60RS is a powerful yet versatile rifle cartridge that has grown in popularity in recent years. It was originally developed by the German government and is based on the 7.92 x 57mm Mauser cartridge. The 8x60RS offers shooters a wide range of bullet weights, from 160 to as heavy as 250 grains, providing great accuracy at long distances while still being able to remain relatively low recoil. This makes it an ideal choice for target shooting, hunting, predator calling, and even self-defense.The 8x60RS also offers some advantages over its competitors, such as the .30-06 Springfield which requires a larger receiver due to its overall length of 3” compared to the 8x60RS' 2.64” length. Despite having lighter bullets than other rounds, the 8x60RS has good velocity and excellent energy retention past 1,000 yards making it capable of taking down large game animals at longer distances without sacrificing accuracy.
