- The 9x20 VGW is a unique European pistol cartridge that was developed in the early 1960s for the Czechoslovakian CZ vz. 61 Scorpion pistol. It has an overall length of 20 mm and is a rimless, semi-rimmed case measuring 202 mm long with a bullet weight of 8 grams.
The 9x20 VGW is considered to be one of the most powerful rounds available in its class; it produces more energy than other popular calibers like 9mm Luger and .380 ACP due to its higher pressures up to 35,000 PSI. This makes it an exceptional round for defense applications, but should still be used responsibly given its power. Additionally, some hunters may choose this round due to its impressive terminal ballistics.
