Hi everybody,
I’m playing with some loads I’m using in a bolt gun .300 blackout. I tried the Hornady Sub-X 190gr and am unimpressed at the subsonic velocities I’m aiming for. I’ve got an extra box of 185 Berger JUGs and wondering if anyone has experience with those.
Thanks folks
Accuracy. Using a bolt gun. Gonna look at the mechanical variables again and try again with a little more powder. I’m using VV 110 but would like to try some trail boss.
Subsonic is going to be subsonic. Why are you unimpressed? No gas pressure? Bright muzzle flash? You can push them all at supersonic without any problems. Subsonic is 1050-1150, and that's it - you got subsonic. Anything faster is supersonic. Anything slower than 1050 is giving up your energy at the target. I like 1050 fps (still subsonic in temperatures down to zero degrees fahrenheit). You can push it up to 1150 (hot weather subsonic) without difficulty, but 1150 is going to be supersonic if there is snow on the ground. So - What's the problem? Running semi-auto? I've had very good resultes with Accu 1680 because it produces a LOT of gas to operate the action which is something I don't always get in subsonic loads using 4227, CFEBLK, H110 (bright flash at the muzzle), Lil'Gun, TrailBoss, or Accu 11FS. Accu 1680 will push that 185g at wahtever velocity you want for subsonic and still run the action and give good accuracy, and metering consistency is as good as Lil'Gun. So - What, exactly, are you having difficulty with?
keen to help but what do you exactly mean by "unimpressed at the subsonic velocities".
