Letztes Update: 11/17/2024 Description The 8mm Lebel revolver caliber was a small centerfire cartridge introduced in the late 19th century for the French military revolvers, specifically the Modele 1892 Revolver, also known as the "Lebel revolver." It was developed during a period of rapid technological advancements in firearms, designed to standardize ammunition for military sidearms. This cartridge replaced older black-powder designs, marking a transition to smokeless powder for revolvers. The 8mm Lebel cartridge featured a rimmed design, making it suitable for revolvers with a swing-out cylinder. It had a bullet diameter of approximately 8.3mm and used a relatively light 6.3-gram (97-grain) lead projectile. Although modest in power compared to other contemporary revolver calibers, it was deemed sufficient for close-range self-defense and military use. One of the distinctive aspects of the 8mm Lebel revolver cartridge was its longevity; it remained in service with the French military throughout World War I and parts of World War II. However, its relatively low stopping power and the advent of more powerful cartridges led to its eventual obsolescence. Today, the 8mm Lebel is a collector's item, with surviving cartridges and firearms cherished by enthusiasts of historical military weaponry. Ammunition production is rare, catering primarily to reenactors and collectors. Letztes Update: 12/27/2024 Description The .380 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol), also known as .380 Auto, .380 Automatic, or 9×17mm, is a rimless, straight-walled pistol cartridge that was developed by firearms designer John Moses Browning. The cartridge headspaces on the mouth of the case.[5] It was introduced in 1908 by Colt, for use in its new Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless semi-automatic, and has been a popular self-defense cartridge ever since, seeing wide use in numerous handguns (typically smaller weapons). Other names for .380 ACP include 9mm Browning, 9mm Corto, 9mm Kurz, 9mm Short, and 9mm Browning Court (which is the C.I.P. designation). It should not be confused with .38 ACP. The .380 ACP does not strictly conform to cartridge naming conventions, named after the diameter of the bullet, as the actual bullet diameter of the .380 ACP is .355 inches. When aggregating the ballistic performance of 56 suitable bullets for this caliber, you get an average powder charge of 3.1gr | 0.2g , an average muzzle velocity (V0) of 922fps | 281m/s , and an average muzzle energy (E0) of 277 Joule. Letztes Update: 11/17/2024 Description The 8×50 mm R Lebel (8mm Lebel) (designated as the 8 × 51 R Lebel by the C.I.P.) rifle cartridge was the first smokeless powder cartridge to be made and adopted by any country. It was introduced by France in 1886. Formed by necking down the 11×59 mm R Gras black powder cartridge, the smokeless 8mm Lebel cartridge started a revolution in military rifle ammunition. Standard 8mm Lebel military ammunition was also the first rifle ammunition to feature a spitzer boat tail bullet (balle D), which was adopted in 1898. The long-range ballistic performance of the 8mm Lebel bullet itself was exceptional for its time. For use in the magazine tube-fed early Lebel rifle, the 8 mm case was designed to protect against accidental percussion inside the tube magazine by a circular groove around the primer cup which caught the tip of the following pointed bullet. However, the shape of its rimmed bottle-necked case, having been designed for the Lebel rifle's tube magazine, also precluded truly efficient vertical stacking inside a vertical magazine. The bolt thrust of the 8mm Lebel is relatively high compared to many other service rounds used in the early 20th century. Although it was once revolutionary, the 8mm Lebel was declared obsolete after World War I and was soon after replaced with the 7.5×54mm French round.
